She collected for Misericordia; was a docent for Tanner House Museum; taught CCD classes; acted as an election judge, and more. Marianne was blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice, which won her a four-year voice scholarship. And through the years she gave concerts, recitals, sang at various churches and functions and performed in musicals. She had a voice that only God can give. But above and beyond all else, she was a person of great and profound faith. Her faith sustained her through both the good and the most difficult times of her life. Cathleen Anne (Foote) Potter, 67, of Geneva, Illinois, passed away on November 13, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to Edward L. Foote and Helen (McDonald) Foote in Aurora, Illinois, on April 7, 1957.

Cathy was a graduate of Rosary High School, Mary Washington University, where she majored in Art History and minored in Dance, and Valparaiso University School of Law. She was a licensed attorney for 23 years, practicing in Appeals and Litigation in Kane County. Cathy was a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and later joined the Compassion Foundation in Aurora, serving as both Vice-President and President.

Cathy was devoted to her children, Andrew and Grace Potter, also of Geneva. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Eastwood of Aurora, and her brother, Robert Foote. Cathy was also a loving aunt to her niece, Jessica (Foote), and nephews, Edward and John (Eastwood). She had numerous relatives both on the East Coast and spread throughout the Midwest. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Helen, and brother-in-law Peter (Eastwood).

Known for her wicked sense of humor, Cathy was first and foremost an attorney who loved everything about practicing law. She worked in the State’s Attorney’s office from 2001-2007, as well as in the private sector. She devoted her time to countless Pro Bono cases, a reflection of her steadfast belief that helping others was not just a choice but an obligation. This was reflected in her personal life as well; she was both a trusted friend and confidant.

A passionate love of art and music allowed her to work in an art gallery shortly after college. Cathy traveled extensively throughout her lifetime both in the U.S. and Europe and was especially fond of her Irish/English heritage. This probably explains why St. Patrick’s Day was one of her favorite holidays. She loved daily talks with her sister Liz, enjoying Starbucks with her son Andrew, and countless trips with daughter Grace, especially their latest adventures in Scotland and the UK. Cathy loved discussing politics, history, religion, poetry, and crime, often devouring countless books on these subjects.

Cathy and her family spent many summers on Cape Cod enjoying the water, dinners, and gathering with friends and relatives. As a result, she appointed herself “entertainment director” for the wide circle of visitors lucky enough to join in the seasonal vacations and celebrations. Friends were especially important to Cathy, and they loved her as much as she loved them. She had a deep affection for Steven, her longtime partner and fellow adventurer of many years. Steven and Cathy shared a unique and quirky take on life, often reflected in their mutual ability to perceive humor or share a joke.

Cathleen was a tremendous presence in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 21, from 4-8 pm,

    Linda Suzanne Vago-Nanfria
, 57 of Batavia, Illinois lost her fierce, persistent fight to lung cancer the morning of November 5, 2016 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. Her two children were fortunate to have remained by her side. She was born April 23,1959 in Aurora, Illinois to the parents of Louis and Alice Vago. She was diligent, hard-working, and selflessly caring woman to every life she touched. Linda attended Catholic schools her whole childhood life with completing her studies at Rosary High School as an iconic Rosary Royal. She then worked for her father's garage door manufacturing company as an Administrative Assistant for many years putting all of her great intelligence to use. Following her work there she pursued other office jobs as well as retail, restaurant, and bar industries while also being a dedicated, loving mother to her two children. During these duties she sought out her effort of getting a degree in law at a local college. Her greatest passion and what she will be most remembered for is her endless love of her family and friends and cooking. First and foremost she devoted all of herself to her children and extended family who were in need of anything even if they needed nothing, never expecting anything in return. Her infinite amount of generosity and love extended beyond her own blood as she included her circle of friends as family. They nobly referred to her as queen because of her unyielding compassion to always support them. Everyone in her life always came before her needs; whether it was a shoulder to lean on, a place to stay, a dollar to give, or moral and safety support, but especially cooking for all as that passion was always the meaning of her love to everyone. She was one of a kind, a rare, but beautiful gem that can never be replicated or replaced. Her strong-willed demeanor to never give up her battle and care for everyone was legendary. She will forever be remembered by all who had the pleasure of receiving her love. Linda is survived by her mother Alice Vago of Aurora, IL; her daughter, Stephanie Nanfria of Aurora, IL; her son, Anthony Nanfria of Hinckley, IL; siblings, David (Shelia) Vago of Jupiter, FL; Abby (Jim) Spagnola of Aurora, IL; Lori (Craig) Cooper of Aurora,IL; Tracie (Richard) Little of Aurora, IL; and Matthew (Dana) Zakosek of Oswego, IL; as well as several cousins and nephews and nieces. Ruth (Richtman) Podmore, who faced lung cancer with grace, humor and love, made her transition on Feb. 28, 2014. She will be remembered for her love of her family, her deep respect for the natural world, her wisdom in teaching, and her creativity. She had a natural ease with mothering, which touched everyone she met and will radiate through generations. She spent 32 years with her soul mate, Mike Podmore, many of those sleeping under the stars and being lulled by the sound of rushing rivers. Her mothering shone in the way she raised her remarkable children Zak and Mollie, but it extended far into the community. Her patience with young children, her parenting wisdom, and her advocacy for those who had less, graced the classrooms of the Monteverde Friends School in Costa Rica, the Mount Sopris Montessori School, Sopris Elementary and Glenwood Springs Elementary. Ruth lived a life that was gentle on the planet and took every opportunity to celebrate the beauty of the Earth. Mike and Ruth made their nest in a 100-year-old cabin on the banks of Three Mile Creek. Her artistry graced each corner of the house. Her life made a beautiful circle, as she passed her final strong and peaceful days in the same part of her home in which she gave birth to Mollie. On both occasions, she was surrounded by loving family and friends. She will be missed fiercely, but her love inspires each of us who knew her to be an extraordinary parent, teacher and custodian of the Earth. A celebration of her life will be held on March 15 at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School barn in Carbondale, Colorado at 1 p.m. The event will include potluck appetizers, so guests are invited to bring a small dish to share as well as any written stories, photos, or art that you would like to share and leave for the family.
