Music Awards Presented at Spring Concert

Music Director Mrs. Megan Carron presented music awards to Rosary seniors at the May 4 Spring Pops Concert.
Sophia Cousins was presented with the Sr. Marilyn Brennan Memorial Award. This award is presented to an advanced chorus senior for outstanding leadership, dedication, service, and being a role model to others. Sr. Marilyn served Rosary High School from 1976 to 1990.

Sophia has been a dedicated, kind and passionate leader in the Music and Theatre Departments, Mrs. Carron said. Sophia has held officer positions every year in choir, and was Ensemble Vice President this year. “She loves to encourage her peers and help them succeed,” Mrs. Carron said. “Sophia shares her kind heart, her strong faith and positive attitude with everyone in the Music Department as well as with the school overall….Her dedication to her craft is an inspiration to all.”

Ellie Schubert was presented with the Brandy Miller Memorial Award. This award is presented to an orchestra senior for outstanding leadership, dedication, musicianship and serving as a role model. A member of the Class of 2007, Brandy (1989-2007) was on the Honor Roll, involved in the Orchestra, Glee Club, Drama Club, Bible Club, Ensemble and the Sisters of Cecilia, which provided music and prayers for the masses at Rosary High School. She was an Illinois State Scholar, in the Band and Flags at Marmion Academy, and was in several musicals at both Rosary and Marmion.

Ellie has been an encouraging mentor and leader all four years in Orchestra, Mrs. Carron said. “She made Orchestra fit her schedule all four years while also singing in choir, performing in musicals, and being a part of track.” Ellie served as President of the Chamber Orchestra this year. “Ellie is very dedicated to her craft,” she continued. She has been an anchor to the violin section and is always willing to help her peers….Her passion for music and theatre is evident in all that she does.”

Reegan Barr received the National School Choral Award which is presented to the highest-achieving choral music student. Reegan has played a very active leadership role all four years of choir, serving as President of Ensemble this year. She has represented Rosary at ILMEA, receiving the highest honors with all of her Solo and Ensemble Contest solos. “Reegan works hard, has a wonderful rapport with her peers, and is dedicated to constantly improving her musicianship,” Mrs. Carron said. “She has also been an outstanding leader in the Rosary Theatre Department by serving as the Lighting Designer and Light Board Operator for all of the Rosary Fall Musicals, as well as inspiring and mentoring students to learn about lighting design.”

Bella Bice was presented with the Director’s Award, given to the highest-achieving orchestra student. Bella has competed at Illinois Solo and Ensemble Contest and WSMA, and always received the highest honors. She played an active leadership role as Symphony Orchestra President last year and Chamber Orchestra co-Vice President this year. “In Bella’s four years in Orchestra, she has taken advantage of every opportunity to better her musicianship,” Mrs. Carron said. “She has a good rapport with her peers and encourages others to do their best.” Bella has been our percussionist for two Rosary Musicals and has stepped in as a guest percussionist for the choirs over her four years in the Music Department. Bella also auditioned and earned the honor to compete at Drum Corps. “Bella works hard and is dedicated to her craft,” Mrs. Carron said.

Royal Thespian Awards were presented to Kylee Gurbal and Molly Walder. This award is given to seniors who have been a part of the Rosary musicals all four years and have taken on significant leadership roles.

Kylee Gurbal has been involved in everything music and theatre at Rosary all four years. In addition to appearing in the musicals, she served as Assistant Director for Fiddler on the Roof last Fall. The past two years, she has served as the stage manager for the entire music and theatre department, always being willing to help with set-up, microphones, and run the soundboard for Masses, assemblies and more. She has stepped up as a leader in the department by serving as a Treble Chorus mentor for the underclassmen. “Her passion and heart is evident in all she has been involved in,” Mrs. Carron said. “Kylee is kind, always willing to lend a hand in need. She has a wonderful rapport with her peers and shares great ideas for the better.”

Molly Walder has been involved in everything music and theatre at Rosary all four years. She has stepped up as a leader in the department by serving as a Treble Chorus mentor for the underclassmen, and served as President of Trebleliers this year. She also represented Rosary Fine Arts at every Open House. “Molly works very hard in all she does, is kind, and is one of the most thoughtful people I know. She is grateful for the opportunities she receives, and always takes the time to thank everyone, not just verbally but in with thank you letters as well. Molly is a wonderful role model for all students in the music and theatre departments.”

Rosary offers three choirs and two orchestras: Treble Chorus, Ensemble, Glee Club, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Music students may participate in the IMEA contest, the IHSA Solo/Ensemble Contest, the school musical, music for school liturgies, and various field trips.

Varsity Music letters are a special honor awarded to music seniors who participate in performing ensembles all four years. These students balance music with challenging academics, sports, clubs, and service. These varsity music letters are awarded to these music seniors who have shown dedication and commitment to excellence in the Rosary Music Department. 

Spring Pops Concert

Rosary presented its annual Spring Pops Concert and Senior Tribute on May 4, 2023.

The concert featured music from the school's orchestras and choirs, a senior song, and alumnae were invited on stage to join in the Dominican Blessing and Daughter of God.

The seniors were presented with gifts from the Fine Arts Boosters, their Music letters, and Music awards (see above). The traditional senior tribute is a slide show including photos and college choices.

Visual arts seniors were honored at a dinner earlier in the evening with teacher Ms. Carolyn Krainak.
